Limits, plainly

Free and rate limited so it stays fast for everyone. Need more than 10 VINs per call? Loop over your list: an API key covers thousands of calls a month, and the weekly Recallroll Brief lists every new campaign each Monday.

• Up to 10 VINs per call; 10 calls a minute per IP on the free tier.
• Free tier: 50 calls a day per IP, no key. Paid keys from $19/month (see Get an API key).
• Recalls are listed per make, model and model year, as NHTSA publishes them; confirm a specific VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
• Nothing is stored: each call asks NHTSA live (cached up to 10 minutes).

Get an API key

VIN in, safety recalls out: one call decodes up to 10 VINs with NHTSA vPIC (year, make, model, trim, engine, plant) and lists every NHTSA recall for each vehicle, Do Not Drive and Park Outside first, with remedy and campaign links. Keys work on the REST API and the MCP server.

Pay with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link through Stripe Checkout (sales tax/VAT handled by Stripe). Your key appears on the page you return to right after checkout: save it. Manage or cancel any time at recallroll-api.cybermax-tools.workers.dev/manage. Send it as x-api-key: YOUR_KEY (or Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY, which MCP clients support). Check usage at /key. Failed calls are not counted. Vehicle APIs charge per VIN call: CarsXE Starter is $40.83/month billed yearly for 2,000 calls, auto.dev lists recalls at $0.01 a call on its $299/month plan (checked 27 Sep 2026). Recallroll Shop is $19/month for 2,000 calls, each decoding up to 10 VINs with every open NHTSA recall, or $5 pay-as-you-go for 400 calls.
